Entrevistada da Semana: Larissa Arrais

Bom, pessoal, muitos alunos me perguntam quem eu sou e o que faço aqui. Por isso eu sou a entrevistada da semana!

1. O que você faz na ALI?

Eu ofereço assistência a alunos durante o primeiro dia de aula, eu sou uma estagiária no Marketing e também ajudo com ambos Coordenação e com o nosso consultante do MICC.

2. Em quais horários podemos te achar na recepção?
A não ser que eu esteja trabalhando num projeto especial, eu estarei na recepção todos os dias das 9:00 as 17:00.

3. Quantas línguas você fala?

Como eu sou brasileira eu falo Português, eu também aprendi Espanhol na escola. Eu sou uma professora de Inglês e também falo Francês. Eu também conheço algumas palavras em Italiano, mas não é o suficiente para manter uma conversa.

4. Qual é a melhor forma de aprender uma língua?

Eu acho que você só aprende uma língua quando você a deixa fazer parte da sua vida, da sua rotina. Praticar, também, fora da sala de aula é o melhor e mais legal jeito de aprender! Minha dica para um estudante é de ir a atividades, assistir TV e ler artigos de jonal, quanto mais melhor!

5. O inverno de Montréal é muito pesado para um brasileiro?

Se você está vestido adequadamente, não. Compre jaqueta e botas! Eu, pessoalmente, vejo o inverno como uma estação divertida e na qual você aprenderá coisas novas e adquirirá novos hábitos. Eu vejo tudo isso como uma oportunidade única, já que no Brasil nós não temos neve.

6. É difícil utilizar o transporte público da cidade?

Não. O sistema de transporte público funciona sempre na hora certa e o Google consegue te dar informações sobre onde ir e qual ônibus pegar. Eu recomendo que, antes de chegar aqui, vocês chequem os principais endereços da cidade. Dessa forma você nunca se perderá. Ah, algém disso, existe um aplicativo para smart phones que se chama STM, ele te dá todas os horários dos ônibus. Isso ajuda bastante :-)

7. Montreal é uma cidade perigosa?

De jeito nenhum! Não tenha medo de andar pelas ruas ou de pegar o metrô. Policiais sempre serão muito prestativos, especialmente com estudantes internacionais. Se você não fala Inglês ou Francês tente achar mapas ou encontrar alguém que fale a sua língua. Montreal possui muitos imigrantes e talvez você ache alguém.

8. Qual é o seu lugar favorito na cidade?

Meu lugar favorito é um parque chamado Jean Drapeau, é um lugar tranquilo e familiar, que oferece eventos durante o verão e o inverno, é lindo, limpo, e você sai de lá super relaxada! Eu também tenho uma lista de restaurantes brasileiros que eu gosto de ir, mas esse é assunto para um novo post, haha!

Interview in English 

1. What do you do at our school?

I assist our students in their first day at school, I am a Marketing intern and I also help with both Coordination and our MICC consultant.

2. At what time can we find you at reception?

Unless I’m engaged in a special project I usually work from reception, so you could find me every day from 9am to 5pm.

3. How many languages do you speak?

As I am from Brazil I speak Portuguese, I also learnt Spanish at school. I am an English teacher and also speak French. I know a few words in Italian as well, but it’s not enough to keep a conversation.

4. What is the best way to learn a new language?

I think you only learn a language whenever you let it be part of your life, your routine. Practicing outside your classroom is the best and funniest way to learn! My tip for a student would be to go to as many activities as possible and watch as many shows or read as many articles as possible that are in the language that you are learning.

5. Is the winter in Montreal too hard for a Brazilian?

If you are well dressed it won’t be too hard. Buy a good jacket and good boots! I, personally, see the winter as a fun season where you will learn new things and acquire new habits. It see it as a unique opportunity, since in Brazil we don’t have snow.

6. Is it hard to get by with public transportation?

No. The public transportation system works always in time and Google can always tell you where to go or which bus to take. I recommend that, before arriving, you check our main addresses. That way you will never be lost. Oh, also, there is a very helpful app for smart phones called STM, that gives you all the schedules from the buses. It’s quite helpful J

7. Is Montreal a dangerous city?

Absolutely not! Don’t be afraid to walk on the streets or to take the metro. Policemen will always be very helpful, especially with international students. If you don’t speak either English of French try to find maps or to ask for someone who speaks your language. Montreal has a lot of immigrants and you might be able to find one.

8. What is your favorite spot in Montreal?

My favorite spot is a park called Parc Jean Drapeau, it is a peaceful and familiar place that you can go for events in both winter and summer, it’s beautiful, clean and you get out of there super relaxed! I also have a list of Brazilian restaurants that I like to go, but that is subject for a new post, haha!
